Ghana

Jun 1, 2010 - Jul 25, 2010

Site and people:
Accra and villages throughout Ghana will be the ministry sites.

Program:
Cross-cultural training and preparation will be followed by partnership in evangelistic outreach with Ghanaian staff and students, with additional service and study opportunities. We will visit some of the historical sites related to the Atlantic slave trade and will prayerfully consider how we may become agents of reconciliation in our present context, which continues to be impacted by the consequences of colonialism and the Atlantic slave trade.

Ministry:

Goals:

  1. Provide a context for American students of diverse ethnic backgrounds and African students to form a witnessing community, bringing a holistic gospel to communities in Ghana.
  2. Help American students to grow in their understanding and commitment to God's Kingdom purposes in the world.
  3. Challenge American students to become servants and learners who grow in godliness as they learn to depend upon the Lord while they are out of their comfort zone.
  4. Help students grow in their ability to recognize injustice and evil and in their vision of how God can use them as a redeeming influence and a blessing to all peoples.

Orientation and re-entry:
Cultural and historical orientation, cross-cultural skills, and evangelism training will be provided.

Notes about the Project:
The staff team includes African-American leadership, and the program will be intentionally developed as a positive entry-level missions experience for students of all ethnicities. Applications will be accepted until the program fills.
