Asian American views on Ethnic Specific Ministry and Multi-ethnic Ministry This paper will address the two main types of Asian American ministry that we have in InterVarsity: ethnic specific and multiethnic. (Within the category of ethnic specific fellowships, they are Pan Asian American, Korean American or Chinese American). We will talk about the Scriptural basis for these fellowships, presenting two views as well as to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the two types of ministries. This paper is intended for Asian American staff and students. Though it may relate to other situations as well, it is not intended to address issues of all ethnic specific ministries. Before we start, we want to start by introducing ourselves a bit and sharing some about our background, and why we are writing this paper.  (more info)

Engaging Culture Unit 3: Ministry Strategies This is the third of three parts of training, designed to help people engage with an increasingly postmodern culture. This is the heart of where the first two units are heading, where I build off the bases of images of leadership and the history of our culture towards effective strategies for ministry (at any level or context). These are a bit general, but I think are important correctives to things we often miss. I try to draw most of what I think out of Scripture, so this really isn't anything new, just a correction of misperceptions people have. Especially those who have not examined assumptions behind faith practices.  (more info)

GIG team integration outline The GIG team is a response to the need for students to share the good news of Jesus' radical love to others. We have found that those who are set apart to work solely on evangelism seldom do and those not set apart for evangelism seldom work on evangelism. The result is little to no evangelism. Our response is a hybrid GIG team that asks every leader to do evangelism but only holds them accountable for shorter periods of time. It's worked great in Tampa.  (more info)

On Reasons and Believing the Christian Message In this talk I investigate whether it's rational or reasonable to believe the Christian message. Do we need evidence to believe? If not, why not? But if so, what counts as evidence? Who decides? On what basis? I want to address the subject of whether bright, thoughtful people—such as people who teach and study in the universities of the world—people who do not yet believe the Christian message—people such as these, do they have good reason to believe? Hopefully this talk will help Christians better understand these issues as well. For thoughtful Christians, of course, the issue is should they believe what they have believed? This is a little piece of religious epistemology and apologetics.  (more info)

Thinking about Believing People don't just need some new piece of information about Jesus or some more effective or more relevant "plan of salvation." Often the barrier to faith for them is something that comes prior to that. What they need help in is in thinking about how to believe something that is a radically new claim about reality, which is Jesus. This talk (given to Christian faculty) explores biblically how Jesus challenged his contemporaries including the apostle Paul to think outside the box. It then looks at the categories of thought that keep people today at the University from considering the Gospel and how to help them think in new ways. It provides many stories of how this has happened on campus.  (more info)

Worship As our Living Sacrifice This is an Article I wrote for my church newsletter. It talks about how the word living sacrifice connotes life and not death. So what we offer God in our worship should be alive. Also that Worship as organic means that it is very diverse and should be interwoven into our daily lives.  (more info)
