Citizen Soldiers

InterVarsity salutes America’s 24.8 million veterans. Many veterans are on the college campus as students and as faculty. Some of those veterans are involved in InterVarsity activities.

Other InterVarsity students have a military commitment through the National Guard and Reserves, or through ROTC. In the last year we have reported on InterVarsity alumni of Norwich University who are now serving overseas. We also reported on a University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh alumnus who had a ministry on campus while fulfilling his ROTC commitment with the Army Reserves. He was called to active duty, serving in Iraq until his death earlier this year.

Urbana.org is currently featuring an interview with Ridley Usherwood, InterVarsity’s Director of Church Relations, and an Air Force Reserve Chaplain. Urbana.org also has a reprint of a 1944 article from InterVarsity’s HIS magazine entitled, What if You Get Called Up?

Many Christians feel called to serve their country through the military, in part, out of their appreciation for the religious freedom that is our national heritage.
