Remembering God's Goodness

As seniors in the InterVarsity chapter at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities gathered to share a meal, they also shared with each other how they had seen God work in their lives and on campus. They studied Joshua 4 together: the biblical account of the Israelites entering the Promised Land. As the Israelites cross the Jordan River, God tells them to set up stones as a memorial of what God had done for them.

The seniors also wanted to remember God’s faithfulness to them throughout the school year, so they each took a stone and together built a memorial, symbolizing God’s work in their lives over the past four years. They remembered a student who struggled in school but felt God’s comfort and experienced God’s grace throughout that rough year. They remembered a student who came to know Christ through InterVarsity. They remembered a student’s family faith becoming personal faith during college. Another student expressed gratitude for the friendship and fellowship offered by other InterVarsity students.

As the seniors expressed gratitude for God’s faithfulness to them, they added their stones to the memorial. After each student had shared how they had seen God work in the fellowship, they gathered in prayer, thanking God for his sustaining love in the past and promise of love for the future. The evening ended with the group singing ‘Amazing Grace.’
