Advancement Researcher

To advance the purpose of InterVarsity, this position will serve in research, reporting, analysis, and data collection of prospective and current donors using external resources and the InterVarsity Database for the purposes of the Development team.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Personal:

Provide Research for the Development Team:

  • Research individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of sources. Analyzing and synthesizing collected information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, and connection to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
  • Write, program and generate reports in Oracle Applications/Discoverer and in SalesForce Non-Profit Starter Pack (i.e. donors, prospects, alumni, staff, board, involvements, etc.)
  • Analyze and segment constituent pools for development
  • Develop and support a donor pipeline shepherding donors through the development continuum

Contribute to the Overall InterVarsity Database:

  • Assist in the oversight of the prospect databases and tracking systems and coordinate data tracking with Advancement staff
  • Create and generate reports for various constituents (Executive Leadership Team and VPs, Directors of Philanthropy, Campaign Director, Regional Ministry Directors, etc.)
  • Partner with the Manager of Development Research and Data Analytics to develop MADRID training resources for InterVarsity staff and regularly provide training

Create Various Lists of Constutents for the Purposes of Communication:

  • Create and generate constituent lists for events, mailings, newsletters, etc.
  • Create and generate 3-5 direct mail lists annually
  • Maintain and manage event and specific lists for response and next steps

Ministry Partnership Development:

  • Develop a personal support team for prayer and financial support through visits, phone calls, and regular prayer letters with support and training from InterVarsity
  • Raise a minimum of 10% financial support annually

Foster a Collective Development Team Environment:

  • Be a contributing member of the Research and Development team meetings
  • Attend and be a contributing member of the Advancement and NSC Community gatherings
  • Attend and work InterVarsity events as assigned (Urbana, National Staff Conference, Guest Programs, etc)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Annually affirm InterVarsity’s Statement of Faith
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of two years of service in institutional advancement/development, preferably in the area of major gifts preferred
  • Understanding of statistics and analysis required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Microsoft Excel required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required
  • Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement member preferred
  • Experience with Oracle Applications or SalesForce Non-Profit Starter Pack preferred
  • Williness to travel occasionally and infrequently

  • Ability to hold matters in confidence and to handle confidential information with integrity
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines
  • Must be a creative and curious person with a high level of persistence. Able to search out information in innovative ways
