Campus Staff Minister - UC Davis

The University of California, Davis is a public research university that is part of the University of California (UC) system. It has the third-largest enrollment in the UC System after UCLA and UC Berkeley.

The Carnegie Foundation classifies UC Davis as a comprehensive doctoral research university with a medical program, and very high research activity. The UC Davis faculty includes 23 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 30 members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 17 members of the American Law Institute, 14 members of the Institute of Medicine, and 14 members of the National Academy of Engineering. Among other honors, university faculty, alumni, and researchers have won the Nobel Peace Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Pulitzer Prize, MacArthur Fellowship, National Medal of Science, Blue Planet Prize, and Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

Founded primarily an agricultural campus, the university has expanded over the past century to include graduate and professional programs in medicine (which includes the UC Davis Medical Center), law, veterinary medicine, education, nursing, and business management, in addition to 90 research programs offered by UC Davis Graduate Studies. The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is the largest in the United States and has been ranked first in the world for four consecutive years, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.  - Wikipedia

During the 2018-19 academic year, 1927 masters and 4,603 doctoral students are enrolled at U.C. Davis. InterVarsity has an undergrad and grad student chapter. There is also potential to develop a strong faculty ministry.

Consider the opportunity to serve the graduate student and faculty population at UC Davis, engaging in issues of faith and academic integration. The Campus Staff Minister will:

  • Develop InterVarsity ministries for graduate students and faculty at UC Davis.
  • Network with and mentor graduate students
  • Meet with faculty to help nurture a vision for being and creating world changers
  • Provide spiritual support to Christian faculty as they maneuver a demanding vocation and conduct research
  • Partner with InterVarsity undergraduate ministries
  • Explore a relationship with faculty at Sacramento State University.
  • Participate in the team of InterVarsity Graduate & Faculty Ministries campus staff across the Pacific Area

InterVarsity is looking for candidates who demonstrate prior Christian leadership, personal initiative, and interpersonal skills. Theological education and/or advanced degrees are considered an asset. The ideal candidate has prior work experience in ministry or the marketplace as well as an advanced degree. Candidates need to have people skills for networking, leadership, and evangelism. Cross-cultural skills are a must. All campus staff with InterVarsity are responsible for their own ministry partner development and will receive training and supervision in this area.
