Campus Staff Minister - University of Pennsylvania

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Campus Staff Minister to serve the 11,825 full-time graduate students and 4,722 faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.

Located in Philadelphia, PA, America’s sixth-largest city, the University of Pennsylvania (known locally as Penn) is a nationally ranked private research university, one of the top recipients of competitive research grants in the U.S. and a member of the Ivy League.  Penn is one of the nine colonial colleges chartered prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  Under Benjamin Franklin’s leadership it became America’s first university, the University of Pennsylvania, in 1749.

Penn offers nearly 300 graduate degree and certificate offerings, from Accounting to Women’s Health.  Its 12 graduate schools include five professional schools:

  • the Wharton School of Business
  • the School of Dental Medicine
  • Carey Law School
  • Perelman School of Medicine
  • The School of Veterinary Medicine

Penn’s agenda as a university is wide-reaching; we long to see it shaped by values that reflect the Kingdom of God.

We are seeking staff who will model and encourage the integration of faith and work, reach cynics and seekers, as well as provide pastoral care to a population that puts on a good public face but deeply struggles inside with questions of identity and purpose.  Candidates should be godly, goal-oriented, emotionally healthy self-starters who demonstrate a passion for building witnessing communities.  Candidates should have strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, prior Christian leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to navigate a dynamic relationship with the university. Theological education and/or advanced degrees are considered an asset.
