Study Abroad Spiritual Formation Coordinator- (Internal Only)

To advance the purpose of InterVarsity, this position will engage in direct ministry in digital spaces with study abroad students, both individually and in online small groups.



  • Be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world

Lead students and staff in spiritual formation experiences abroad

  • Lead several overseas pilgrimage experiences each year for staff, students, alumni and ministry partners, introducing them to novel spiritual encounters designed around unique sacred spaces. 
  • Lead groups in scripture engagement, personal reflections, and liturgical practices throughout a program
  • Develop expertise in relevant spiritual pratices (prayer, spiritual disciplines, direction, etc.) and the historical context for each of our short-term spiritual formation programs abroad
  • Coordinate logistics for programs with assistance from Study Abroad Office
  • Work with director to select, train, and support all journey leaders necessary to cover in-person programs each year

Develop curriculum and manage programs for Spiritual formation experiences abroad

  • Manages curriculum, program development, and staffing for each program, including goal setting and evaluation.
  • Assists team with student recruitment
  • Scout new program locations to expand program offerings
  • Develop networks with overseas vendors and partners, including housing, transportation, etc
  • Develop relational network with IFES movements in locations where Study Abroad is developing programs

Ministry Partnership Development

  • Develop a team of partners – churches and individuals (including alumni and community members) – who will resource the ministry financially, in prayer, or volunteer service that advances the mission
  • Raise agree upon % of budget assigned by supervisor
  • Communicate regularly with your ministry partners, nurturing the relationship through visits, phone calls, social media, emails, and print prayer letters
  • Comply with all Ministry Partnership Policies
  • Identify and invest in advocates who will build networks of volunteers and donors on InterVarsity’s behalf


  • Annually affirm InterVarsity’s Statement of Faith
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to take charge of tasks and work independently without close supervision
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a diverse team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and grow a funding base
  • Two years of campus staff or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading staff and students in prayer and other spiritual formation exercises
  • Availability for significant travel requirements
  • Substantial travel experience and/or leading students in cross-cultural environments
  • Savvy with social networking and online communication
  • Adaptable to new and evolving situations
  • Agile in navigating cross-cultural relationships and environments
  • A working knowledge of current Microsoft Software applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) is preferred
