Campus Ministry

InterVarsity's campus ministry in New York City starts with 40 days of prayer

Walk across any college campus today and you're bound to travel around the world. College and university campuses have become ethnically and culturally diverse. InterVarsity's campus witnessing communities reach out to students and faculty through diverse ministries.

While August is often referred to as the "dog days of summer," it is anything but a relaxing month for campus staff. Four out of five universities operate on a semester system and most open their doors this month. Consequently, staff are already engaged in a variety of activities including preparing for New Student and New Faculty Outreach.

Located directly across the street from the campus of the College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey, Central Baptist Church is ideally positioned to reach many of the approximately 5,600 students who attend the school. But leaders of the church know that a good location doesn't guarantee an effective student ministry. So they decided to team up with InterVarsity.

Elizabeth Villalovos sees more and more Latino students arriving on campus "without finding a place where they can thrive and grow in their walk with God." Her passion is connecting with those students to let them know how much God loves them.

It's a cliche but it's true, prayer changes things. Students involved in InterVarsity and other Christian groups on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus spent 40 days praying in a 24/7 prayer room and have been awed by how they have seen God at work on campus.

UCLA's Can This Wait conference encourages students to answer Jesus' call to faith.

Performing a skill with excellence requires preparation. That includes skills for campus ministry. InterVarsity's annual Orientation for New Staff prepares women and men for ministry on campus.

With about 1,000 students being reached through InterVarsity's Graduate and Faculty chapters at Harvard, this ministry has transformed its focus for engaging the campus.
