News Release
For Immediate Release

(Madison, WI)—Jim Tebbe, Vice President for Missions for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship USA and Director of InterVarsity’s Urbana 06 Student Missions Convention, announces the appointment of Pastor James Williams as Urbana’s representative to the Christian community of the St. Louis area.

Williams is pastor of the New Life Presbyterian Church, which meets in a shared facility with Normandy United Methodist Church, 8000 Natural Bridge, in Normandy, Missouri. He has a background in campus ministry and prison ministry prior to the founding of New Life Church in 1995. He is also executive director for Going Global Network, a Black leadership development ministry. He has been active in a number of outreach ministries in the St. Louis area and was area representative for the 2005 St. Louis Promise Keepers Convention.

“Urbana 06 will help our Christian community and church leaders be more effective in making an impact in local ministry and in global missions,” Williams said. “Urbana 06 is exciting for me because it will be a tool used by God to mobilize committed Christians to change lives, through the gospel of Jesus Christ, locally and globally.”

InterVarsity’s Urbana 06 Student Missions Convention will be held at The Edward Jones Dome and The America’s Center, December 27-31, 2006. Around 25,000 attendees are expected to come to St. Louis for Urbana 06 to learn how God’s mission is being carried out in the world and how they can be involved in it.

InterVarsity is inviting the St. Louis Christian community to a special community evening at Urbana 06, Saturday night, December 30th. Admission is free for the Saturday night program. The speaker will be Rick Warren, author of the best-selling book The Purpose-Driven Life and pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California.

“Rick Warren has reminded the Christian community that our lives should be purpose-driven,” Williams said. “As Christians, we know there is no greater purpose than the cause of Christ. Urbana 06 will equip us with powerful tools and opportunities to live out our purpose in the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
