New Life in Christ

Mac and Amy Smith, InterVarsity staff at the University of Nevada-Reno, got to know Meredith and Lauren by inviting them to dinner. Meredith believed that there was a God, but she was not a Christian. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to learn more about Christianity. Lauren declared that she was an atheist.

During the spring semester, Mac invited Meredith and Lauren to attend InterVarsity’s Seeker Conference, designed for students who are not yet Christians. Meredith wasn’t interested in attending, but Lauren decided to attend.

During the spring semester, Mac invited Meredith and Lauren to attend InterVarsity’s Seeker Conference, designed for students who are not yet Christians. Meredith wasn’t interested in attending, but Lauren decided to attend. “The weekend turned me from being a hard-core atheist to being curious,” Lauren said after the conference.

A few weeks later, the InterVarsity leaders on their dorm floor started a GIG (Groups Investigating God) Bible study for non-Christians with Meredith and Lauren. Their interest in God grew throughout the GIG, and they both started attending InterVarsity’s Large Group meetings and church every week.

Through her experiences both in InterVarsity and the church, Meredith decided she wanted to follow Jesus. At the next InterVarsity meeting, Meredith and her friends had cake to celebrate her new life in Christ. A short time later, Lauren also became a Christian. Meredith and Lauren continue to seek God through their GIG. Meredith and Lauren’s experiences led Garrett, a fellow student at the University of Nevada-Reno to accept Jesus Christ.

One day, Mac and Amy were discussing Meredith’s and Lauren’s decisions to accept Christ. They mentioned how receptive they were to the Gospel. Garrett commented, “I think Lauren is more receptive than Meredith.”

“Garrett, what about you, how receptive are you?” Amy asked. Garrett confided to Mac that he couldn’t get Amy’s question off his mind so he began attending both InterVarsity Large Group and Small Group meetings with Mac and Amy. He decided to attend InterVarsity’s Connections conference, where he studied the Gospel of Mark. During the week, he fell in love with Jesus and with God’s Word. Two weeks after the conference, Garrett became a Christian. Garrett continues to meet with Mac to discuss his newfound Christian faith.

Garrett, Lauren, and Meredith continue to explore their new lives in Christ with the help of their friends in InterVarsity. The support and friendship of fellow believers encouraged them to investigate Christianity.
