NYC Faith and Work Director

To advance the purpose of InterVarsity, this position will serve staff, students and ministry partners by developing an onramp for students, particularly seniors and alumni to discern vocational call, intercede and invest financially and volunteer regularly in ministry efforts on University Campuses. 

  • Personal Spiritual Duties
    • Be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ: growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God’s purposes in the world.
    • Practice daily spiritual disciplines
    • Pursue spiritual relationships and involvement in a worshipping community
    • Continue learning and growth in spiritual understanding, biblical knowledge, ministry experience and skills
    • Experience and live out an ongoing call to ministry service with InterVarsity and its mission
  • Ministry Leadership
    • Develop and implement a 6-8 week Summer Vocational Leadership Program during June and July
    • Participate in Fall Conferences for NY/NJ Region
    • Participate in Downstate Spiritual Formation Retreats
    • Regularly teach at Large Groups in the NY/NJ Region and other strategic partners
    • Lead the marketing and recruitment efforts to have students from NYC campuses be at least 50% of the attendees.
    • Lead marketing and recruitment efforts to integrate students interning in NYC from schools with strong Intervarsity chapters
    • Effectively develop a communication calendar and strategy for running 8 week faith and work discipleship and discernment program.
    • Develop and maintain a “how-to” document for creating, implementing and assessing integrated vocational leadership development programming into InterVarsity areas to ensure sustainability and ownership.
    • Coordinate with NYCUP Director and AD’s to recruit key staff and speakers
    • Fundraise an agreed to personal and programming budget
    • Develop a “senior” weekend or track to be implemented at or around Fall Conferences to onboard them as ministry partners for funding and opportunities to serve.
    • Host a monthly InterVarsity Alumni meet up to cultivate new partners for ministry, offer discipleship tools around vocation, and ask for support for NY/NJ initiatives from September-May.
    • Cultivate a team of intercessors and investors that will sustain he/she and the ministry long term.
    • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with local non-profit and marketplace leaders
    • Access untapped but existing Christian networks for ministry partner development like the Center for Faith and Work, Praxis Academy, New Canaan Society and Collegeville.
    • Collaborate with Regional and Area staff to create and/or utilize already existing campus contextualize discipleship material around vocation, stewardship and philanthropy.
    • Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a diverse team environment
    • Ability to handle all matters in a confidential manner
    • Experience in ministry partner development including but not limited to fundraising.
    • Evening and weekend availability for meeting, events and special projects

  • Annually affirm InterVarsity’s Statement of Agreement (Doctrinal Basis and Purpose Statement). Abide by InterVarsity’s Code of Conduct.   • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a diverse team environment
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum three years’ work experience with InterVarsity or another campus ministry
  • Ministry skills including the ability to communicate spiritual vision, teach spiritual and biblical principles, plan ministry programs, and spiritually disciple, coach and mentor
  • Developed expertise in a focused ministry
  • Willing to receive ongoing training
  • Contribute to an open and supportive relationship with ministry team members
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Ability to organize campus wide events
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files
