When I got to college, I had been a committed Christian for only about 2 years. I had lots of enthusiasm, but my understanding of the faith and of Scripture was pretty shallow. We did not yet have a chapter on campus, but InterVarsity staff workers helped us form one. Those meetings (large group and small group meetings) were very helpful in forming friendships and discussing the Bible and what it meant in our lives. Spring conference (at Windy Gap), I forget which year, was a milestone for me, when I first really understood the depth of my own sin, and what grace really meant, what Jesus had done for me. That rocked my world and anchored my faith to truth. Our staff worker (John Atkinson, I think?) helped me get a scholarship to go to Urbana 1987. That was also a milestone in my life. I didn't go into missions just then, but it set me on a trajectory that led me to missions in my 30s. I am so thankful to IV!
