Grace Wallace, InterVarsity’s Nurses Christian Fellowship director from 1968 – 1984, died on November 2, 2005 in Grants Pass, Oregon. Grace was known as a mentor, prayer warrior and friend, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Grace grew up in California, and graduated from nursing school at University of California San Francisco, where she helped to start a Christian student group. Following graduation she worked as a nurse and also provided leadership for a ministry of discipleship for service women and nurses in San Francisco. She also worked with polio patients in Dallas where she learned about Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF)
Grace received her Masters’ Degree in nursing at Columbia University and taught nursing at Cornell University in New York. While there she taught a discipleship seminar for business woman as follow-up for the Billy Graham Crusade and helped nurses and students as staff for NCF.
Grace later went to the University of Kentucky to teach nursing and develop the pediatric nursing program. During that time, Grace participated in the National Advisory Committee of Nurses Christian Fellowship. She became the associate director of NCF in 1965, and director in 1968. Following her retirement in 1984, Grace continued her volunteer work ministering among nurses and students.
In 1991, Grace moved to Merlin, Oregon where she shared a home with her sister. While in Oregon she was involved in ministry with her church, Child Evangelism Fellowship and Hospice. .
A colleague from NCF said of Grace, “her commitment to the Lord and ministry among nurses and students had a deep and lasting effect on NCF USA and NCF International. Grace continued to faithfully pray for us, and we are grateful. Her memory will live on in our hearts and lives. Though we miss her, we are comforted in knowing that she is now enjoying the presence of the Lord Jesus, who she loved and followed during all the days of her life,”
