Intoxicated in Indianapolis

Greeks are passionate partiers, as they showed again at the Superhero party at InterVarsity’s Greek conference in Indianapolis. But they’re also passionate about following Jesus Christ. A total of 686 fraternity and sorority delegates attended the Indianapolis conference.

The theme of Greek Conference this year is Intoxicating. “The most intoxicating, transformed life possible is found in Jesus Christ,” says Andy Dalton, director of Greek InterVarsity. “This is our message to the fraternities and sororities where men and women spend so much of their time and effort looking in the wrong places.”

Sixty-seven decisions for Christ were recorded at the Indianapolis Greek Conference. Another 366 committed to actively sharing their faith on campus. One participant said, “I want the girls in my house to see that there can be much more to their lives than partying and the Greek social scene. I want them to realize that only a relationship with Jesus can offer true and lasting fulfillment.”

“Intoxication is always about an experience,” said Thomas Daniel, an Atlanta pastor who spoke at the Indianapolis Greek Conference. “Unfortunately that’s not a way that many of us think about faith. Faith in Jesus is meant to be intoxicating.”

Greek Conference highlights are available online, including a slideshow of conference images and testimonies of participants. One participant said she was going through a difficult time and felt God calling her back to him at Greek Conference. “This weekend really taught me [that] I am thinking about things the wrong way,” she said. “It’s not about ‘Why are you doing this, Lord?’ but ‘What are you trying to tell me?’”

The talks by Thomas Daniel are featured on InterVarsity’s new podcast, as well as the Greek Conference audio page.

The school year’s first Greek conference was held in Los Angeles, November 18-20. The final Greek conference this year is in Charlotte, February 17-19.
