Statement on Mike Chaloupka

We are all deeply saddened by the sudden loss of new InterVarsity Staff, Mike Chaloupka (University of Wisconsin – Whitewater). Mike was recently appointed to campus staff and was on his way to a New Student Orientation event on August 26, 2008, when he was struck by a car as he crossed a street in his wheelchair. He suffered multiple injuries from the accident. After spending several days in the hospital with Mike’s family, area director Josh Bilhorn wrote this week to say, “It is with much sorrow that I must share that Mike has now gone home to be with His King.”

We are so grateful for Mike and for the contributions he made in the lives of those who knew him. Many acquaintances talked of how kind he was and how much fun he was to be with. President Alec Hill said, “I met him at our recent Orientation for New Staff and was impressed with his courage, friendliness, and desire to be a blessing to others.” Fellow InterVarsity Staff also speak highly of Mike’s commitment to ministry. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

A memorial service was held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Crosspointe Community Church in Whitewater.
