Urbana Blessings in St. Louis

Rob Knight and Tom Lin
January 7, 2013

On the day after Urbana 12, InterVarsity's Student Missions Conference, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay declared January 1, 2013, as InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Day in St. Louis. The Proclamation, presented to Urbana 12 Director Tom Lin and Urbana 12 Operations Director Rob Knight, extended thanks and appreciation to InterVarsity for choosing St. Louis to host Urbana 06, Urbana 09, and Urbana 12.

The ultimate success of Urbana 12 will be recorded in heaven, but Tom Lin offered these benchmark figures:

  • 16,000+ total attendance
  • 32,000 Caregiver Kits assembled to distribute to AIDS Caregivers in three African countries.
  • $800,000+ given in the Urbana 12 offering (donations are still coming in).

10,000 response cards were received, indicating 7058 commitments were made to global or cross cultural missions:

  • 4,224 decisions for more than two years of missionary service
  • 3,071 mid-term commitments
  • 5,744 short term commitments

6,434 made decisions to lead an evangelistic Bible study with a non-believer

800 people went to the celebration room after the call to commitment, not all who committed came to the room:

  • 96 first-time decisions indicated
  • 3,740 re-commitments recorded

The Urbana 12 Worship CD hit #6 on the iTunes Charts in “Christian & Gospel” category.

“I’m extremely proud of our Urbana team and how we brought all of our diverse gifts to the table,” said Urbana Director Tom Lin. “Much of the success of Urbana 12, humanly speaking, has to be given to the all-hands-on-deck effort from all of our InterVarsity staff, including returning Urbana Operations Director Rob Knight and Program Director Nikki Toyama-Szeto from Urbana 09. Thank you staff and volunteers for all that you have done to contribute to the success of Urbana 12!”
