Elias’ Story

When two InterVarsity students invited Elias and his roommate to a Bible study, something inside them was immediately interested. “Ok, we’ll come,” they said.

As they walked down the hall, Elias felt worried. He’d tried reading the Bible on his own and had gotten overwhelmed. What if he said the wrong thing? Or didn’t understand what he was reading? Or got overwhelmed again?

What if this was just another place where he didn’t belong?

But as he met Amanda and the other students, Elias began to relax. None of his fears came true. He felt more comfortable with each Bible study. More at home. More certain that learning about the Bible wasn’t a chore— but a gift.

Elias attended more InterVarsity events and felt a growing sense of belonging with the other students. As he did, his understanding of God changed too.

“[Growing up,] going to church for me…was just the right thing to do,” Elias said. “But now it’s more than just rules. I actually have a relationship with Jesus.”
