An InterVarsity Homecoming

If you long for the chance to connect with old friends from InterVarsity, consider joining the InterVarsity family at the largest alumni event we’ve ever held, at Urbana 06. This December 27-31, 2006, InterVarsity will once again welcome thousands of people who want to learn about the state of global missions, including some who have attended past Urbanas.

Urbana has always focused on college students. But now with the move to St. Louis, Urbana 06 will be able to accommodate people in all stages of life, from high school seniors to mid-career professionals to those who are looking for opportunities in missions after retirement.

There will also be room for InterVarsity alumni who want to share their Urbana experience with family and friends, renew a commitment, or reconnect with InterVarsity. Up to 5,000 InterVarsity alumni are expected at Urbana 06. Receptions, dinners, and special activities are being planned specifically for InterVarsity alumni.

We are excited about the new missions-related topics that Urbana will be able to feature in our new location. We believe that no matter what profession you are in, or what your training, there is a place for you in God’s global mission. Below is a small sampling of the broad array of seminar programming at Urbana 06.

Business as Mission
As the forces of globalization are breaking down cultural, economic and language barriers around the world, they are also opening new doors for the gospel. This is an exciting time to be a Christian in business. Urbana’s Open for Business track will help outline the ways that business can be a force for economic, social, and spiritual vitality throughout the world. Many consider business to be the missions strategy for the 21st century!

Health Care
Care for the body, as well as for the soul, has always been a hallmark of Christian witness. This Urbana will feature a residential track entitled Mission Through the Lens of AIDS, as well as a group of seminars that focus on missions’ opportunities in the field of health care. If you are a health care professional or a nursing, medical, or dental student, these seminars are for you.

Arts & Media
The purpose of this major is to enable artists of all types to integrate their faith and their art, so they may learn to connect more fully with God’s purposes in the world. These sessions will explore opportunities for artists both in missions and in the workplace. This major will offer unique learning opportunities through a combination of art-related seminar content and focused workshops led by professional guest artists— including actors, musicians, dancers, visual artists, film makers, journalists, and art educators—allowing attendees to learn about the practical world of using their artistic gifts after college. Pastors and church leaders who want to learn more about the strategic nature of the arts from a biblical perspective are encouraged to join.
