A Journey of Discipleship

InterVarsity students at Goucher College-Baltimore, MD offer a variety of ministry opportunities to a lot of different people

Ben had attended church as a child and even began to read the Bible. “I struggled all the way through the book of Numbers in the Bible!” he said. As Ben began to study science in school, he didn’t think he needed God in his life anymore. But his high school physics teacher, Mr. Hurley, led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and helped Ben open himself to the possibility that he did need God.

“The conversations and debates within the Fellowship showed me that the intelligent scientist and Christian weren’t mutually exclusive,” Ben said.

As a student at Goucher College, Ben responded to a challenge to attend InterVarsity. “I started reading the second half of the Bible and it made a lot more sense than the first half had as a child. I don’t know exactly when it happened, but sometime that spring it all became real to me,” Ben said of his acceptance of Jesus Christ.

Ben continues to be active in the InterVarsity chapter at Goucher College. He participates in Large Group Fellowship, Nightly Prayer meetings, and the Athletes’ Bible Study. He also attends training with the Discipleship Group, retreats with the Fellowship, and is beginning a Men’s Small Group and Bible study.

Ben’s experience shows that students don’t need to be a Bible expert to get involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. They don’t need to jump into a Bible study to be accepted. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a place where students can learn about and share their faith with other Christians.
