Skip McDonald is a veteran staff member with Nurses Christian Fellowship, a division of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA. She works as a nurse, is involved in women’s ministry in her church and holds degrees in both nursing and theology. And she’s over 40.

She knows that many single, successful women are asking themselves, “Why would God, who is supposed to be loving and whom I serve, not grant me such a deep desire and longing of my heart?” Her new book, And She Lived Happily Ever After, was written for InterVarsity Press because she realized “the issue of singleness and marriage is big enough to make or break” the faith of many women. In other words, if we can’t trust God on this, how can we trust him at all?

The American Association for Single People reports almost half of American adults are single and their numbers are growing. The Baptist Standard reports that over the last 30 years, the percentage of unmarried women in their early thirties has tripled.

Skip believes the way to be successfully single is to maintain a close relationship with God, focusing intently on our purpose for living. “This is more than just a buzz phrase today,” she says. “It is a necessary reality.”

“Singleness is a blessing because it gives us the opportunity to trust that God desires our very best,” she writes. “And in order to trust God, we must come to know this loving God intimately—an incredible blessing.”

The book comes from Skip’s own experiences and insights as well as the wisdom of numerous other single women that she interviewed.
