InterVarsity Press and CAPS International Establish Publishing Partnership
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Downers Grove, IL—InterVarsity Press, a leading publisher of thoughtful Christian books, and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies International (CAPS International), the largest nonprofit association of Christians in counseling and the behavioral sciences, are partnering to publish books that contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between Christianity and the behavioral sciences. The partnership between CAPS International and InterVarsity Press upholds each ministry’s desire for excellence in scholarship in a discipline that benefits the church and the world.
Paul Regan, executive director of the CAPS International, says, “We believe that a strong relation with InterVarsity Press will further both organizations in the fulfillment of our visions to integrate Christian spirituality with academic rigor, particularly in the behavioral sciences.”
CAPS International, an association for Christian psychologists, therapists, counselors and academicians, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the association at the 2006 Annual Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 9-12, 2006. Founded in 1956 by a small group of Christian mental health professionals, CAPS has grown to more than 2,000 members in the United States and Canada and also includes members from more than 25 other countries. Conference attendees now include those in clinical practice, academia, church-based counseling, and research, as well as students of the discipline.
InterVarsity Press will join CAPS International for their 50th anniversary celebration and also to share in the start of a promising new partnership for both companies. Bob Fryling, publisher of InterVarsity Press, says, “InterVarsity Press and our new imprint IVP Academic are known for publishing books that reflect both scholarly excellence and deep biblical faith. We believe that the CAPS logo on InterVarsity Press books will add to this reputation as it communicates a high standard of professional credibility and Christian faith.”
The books to be developed in through the CAPS partnership will be at both the clinical counseling level and the theoretical research level. Andy Le Peau, editorial director at InterVarsity Press, says, “Both InterVarsity Press and CAPS are serious about Christian scholarship that makes a difference in the work of those in the helping professions. We believe there will be excellent synergy in this new partnership in accomplishing the goals of both organizations.”
Founded in 1947 as an extension of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, InterVarsity Press serves those in the university, the church and the world by publishing thoughtful Christian books that equip and encourage people to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of life.
