Of Mark and of Men

During the fall semester 2004, 15 freshmen at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, began meeting to study the Gospel of Mark. As they learn about Jesus, many students are spending time in prayer and Scripture study daily; while others have come to know Christ for the first time.

Todd, one of the regularly attending students, shared his desire to see himself and the other men in the Mark study grow in a life of holiness. He began a Men’s Accountability group for the Bible study members.

Eli, the Bible study leader, Todd, and four other men now meet to pray together. Each week, they pair up with a different prayer partner so that they are building relationships with everyone in the group. They all enjoy being able to share their struggles, pray for, and support each other.

Many of these students did not contribute much to the Bible discussions at the beginning of the semester and none of them prayed out loud. Now they do both regularly as God is moving in their midst.

Throughout the nation, students seek to build supportive Christian communities as they live out their faith on campus.
