Servant Leaders on Campus
Student leaders are vital to InterVarsity’s ministry on campus. Seeing students transformed, campuses renewed, and world changers developed is the reason witnessing communities exist on campus.
Students at York College in Pennsylvania are developing into strong Christian leaders who disciple and train younger students to lead the fellowship as seniors graduate.
Lauren – Leading through Service
Lauren graduated in May 2009. She has served as community service coordinator within the InterVarsity community for two years. Under her leadership, dozens of students had the chance to participate in building projects within low-income neighborhoods, clean-ups in the inner city, and tutoring for underprivileged children.
Lauren also wants to serve the poor by participating in overseas missions work, and she is spending the summer discovering where God may call her to next through an InterVarsity Global Urban Trek to Cairo, Egypt.
Ben – Leading through Bible Study
Ben also graduated this past May and has served the InterVarsity community as a Bible study leader for the past three years. Displaying a deep love for the transformative power of God’s Word, Ben has spent numerous hours introducing freshmen to the person and character of Jesus Christ.
Nicole – Leading through Hospitality
Nicole continues her studies as a nursing student, and spends her time planning and coordinating hospitality for InterVarsity’s weekly large group meetings. She works to develop an inviting atmosphere by greeting students as they arrive.
Next fall, as a senior, Nicole will be discipling and training younger students in the ministry of hospitality. In addition to the large group meetings, Nicole also helps to develop outreach events that are appealing to the entire campus, both the Christian and non-Christian students. Nicole invites newcomers into the fellowship through visiting or calling those who attend. Nicole also helps people get connected within the InterVarsity community.
Kaci – Leading through Prayer
Kaci, a freshman this past school year, served as prayer coordinator for the fellowship. Kaci coordinated a weekly prayer meeting and also supports students with intercessory prayer as personal needs arise or events unfold on campus. Kaci has a heart for prayer, desiring to pray for her fellow InterVarsity students seeking to live out InterVarsity’s vision on campus.
Kaci wants to see students in the fellowship develop stronger habits of prayer. She helps Christian students encounter Jesus in prayer and develop their relationships with Christ.
Next year, as a sophomore, not only will Kaci be serving as prayer coordinator, she also will be part of the executive team and help cast vision for the chapter. Since Kaci disciples other students through prayer, she will continue to develop her own skills and prayer life as she participates in a one-to-one discipling relationship.
Students at York College, and other universities and colleges across the country, are seeking to guide and train younger students to become strong servant leaders both on campus and in their communities upon graduation.
