Why Not Me?

John, who has been part of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at the University of Illinois-Chicago since his first day on campus as a freshman, thought that someone should invite him to actively participate in Fellowship activities. He soon realized that someone else didn’t need to encourage involvement; he could help develop a sense of community within InterVarstiy.

John decided to attend Small Group Leaders Training. He enjoyed learning how to encourage others to discuss their faith. He has decided to lead a small group on campus next fall, so that he can disciple others.

John decided to attend Small Group Leaders Training. He enjoyed learning how to encourage others to discuss their faith. He has decided to lead a small group on campus next fall, so that he can disciple others. John hopes to strengthen his own faith in Jesus Christ as the group discusses God’s will for their lives and their campus.

John spoke at a recent Large Group Fellowship meeting about his desire to become more involved with InterVarsity activities. After he shared some of his experiences and what he learned from participating in the Chicago Urban Project, several freshman students new to the Fellowship asked Daniel Huang, InterVarsity staff at the University of Illinois-Chicago, how they could get actively involved with InterVarsity.

A number of InterVarsity students, current leaders and regular attendees alike, began to recognize that the Fellowship is dependent on their responsibility of sharing the Gospel with others and their commitment to the campus community. Students realized the need to challenge themselves to strengthen their chapter. The daily prayer meetings have become stronger as students step out in faith to get involved in the Fellowship. The entire group of InterVarsity students now eagerly waits for God to do great things among them as they pray for and serve their campus community.

John’s desire to serve his campus community has grown as he seeks to find ways to be involved in his Fellowship. John took the initiative and decided that if he could not find a place within the Fellowship to get involved, he would create his own and serve others in his campus community with the love of Jesus Christ.
