Tea in the Lab

Nathaniel and Andrew, InterVarsity students at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO, transformed their dorm room into a tea house, where people could stop by for tea and conversation, day or night. At a point in the semester when both Andrew and Nathaniel were in the lab with grueling workloads, the tea house became mobile. They brought electric teapots into the labs to treat classmates to mugs of Chamomile, Chai, and of course, Tension Tamer®, along with other herbal delights.

The students welcomed the study break, where they shared their struggles, and Nathaniel and Andrew shared the gospel of Christ. Through the interest these two InterVarsity students showed in Jaime’s life, he accepted Christ during fall semester 2004. Several other students who come to the tea house regularly are learning about Jesus Christ. The tea house also provides a safe place for Christian students to gather for prayer. “People are receptive to hospitality, and sharing life with them in a tangible way has made it easier to share my heart, and by necessity, the heart of Christ, with them,” said Andrew.

Next school year, in addition to using their dorm room, they plan to turn one or two campus apartments into a tea complex.
