Greek Ministry in the New York Times

I’d love for you to see how the Lord is working through our Greek ministry as reported by the New York Times and how the Lord has provided two new key leaders in our mission on campus.

Greek Conference

New York Times National Correspondent Erik Eckholm attended InterVarsity’s Greek Conference in Indianapolis last month. Every February our ministry to fraternity and sorority students has conferences in Indianapolis and Charlotte to invite Greek students into relationship with Jesus Christ. Erik’s article appeared on March 7th. You can read the online version here.

New Vice Presidents

In my monthly column to InterVarsity staff I introduced the two newest members of our executive team: Tom Lin, vice president and director of missions and Urbana, and Andrew Ginsberg, vice president and director of Advancement. To find out why I am so excited about working with these two men, read my column here.

More on Greek Ministry

As a follow-up to the New York Times article on Greek Conference, Eric Holmer, our Greek Ministry Communications Director, provided these statistics on Greek Conference 2011:

  • 16 fraternity and sorority members made first-time decisions to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord.
  • 21 made a commitment to investigate Jesus further along with brothers and sisters in their chapter
  • 254 students made re-commitments, indicating they wanted to repent from what was replacing God in their lives.
  • 295 students made a commitment to lead ministry on campus and in their house.

In addition, Greek Ministry will be under new leadership as of July 1, 2011. Brian Mann has been named as Director of Greek Ministry. Brian and his wife Lauren have been co-coordinators of Greek ministry in InterVarsity's Blue Ridge Region for the past two years and before that worked with Greek students on the University of Illinois campus. Brian is a 2002 graduate of the University of Illinois.
