“That’s not a good prayer,” my InterVarsity staff member challenged me, much to my surprise.
I sat at a border crossing in the middle of the Albanian refugee crisis. My team and I had been sitting at this particular border for three hours.
St. Augustine famously prayed, “Lord, grant me holiness, but not yet.” (Domine, da mihi sanctitiam, sed noli modo.) We may relate to his prayer.
Some sins are easy to identify. When I hit the snooze button for the twelfth time, it’s pretty clear I’m struggling with sloth.
Suddenly, in my mind, I’m tearing my coworker apart limb from limb. How could she get the recognition that I rightfully deserved? This was the moment when I realized that pride was a problem in my life.
